Jan Angilella shares how exercise changed her life.

"I know we're halfway through the month, but I still wanted to write. I turned 46 last week and I am in the best shape of my life! Although I've always been active and a workout fan, my system was askew. So, in September 2008, with the help of a trainer, who is also my nutrition guru, I lost the weight (45 pounds, 20 inches and counting), decreased the body fat percentage and have kept it off! Now I'm on the path to earning a personal trainer certification and I want to help others achieve what I did. For me, exercise IS medicine. By exercising correctly and eating right and staying with it, I started a new life. Everything got better: my confidence and improved self-esteem transcended to all parts of my life, such as the job, friendships, family. When you're in a good place within, you can take on anything. And that's where I am. Who's afraid of bathing suit shopping now? Not me! "

Tamara Sherrill shared how exercise changed her life.

"I am a certified personal trainer and recently began a wellness company. Our company has a client with 2,000 employees across the United States. We created an initial survey to discover the needs and current fitness level of all employees. The most interesting finding of the questions asked was that 56% of the employees wanted to loose weight, but only 26% actually exercised regularly. People want to loose weight, but think cutting calories is the way to do so. Our main objective is to reinforce the need for movement to control numbers such as cholesterol, BP, Blood sugar, weight, and BMI. I am excited to have resources such as ACSM and Exercise is Medicine to support our mission to help motivate Americans to just move!"

"Strength for Life is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to assisting cancer patients and survivors reclaim their life by providing them with FREE exercise classes and wellness weekends (starting November 2009). Each group session is lead by a Certified Cancer Exercise Specialist who has the knowledge and experience to safely train persons who are in cancer related treatment or have recently ended treatment. Classes consist of aerobic conditioning, progressive strength training, range of motion exercises, and flexibility/stretching moves. In addition, the program educates cancer patients and the public on the benefits of exercise in reducing the risk of certain cancers, improving survivorship and enhancing functional activities. Our wellness weekends, held quarterly, have been an extraordinary addition to our program. We introduce four modalities of exercise/wellenss, have related guest speakers; pay for the accomodations and meals and provide exercise equipment - such as mats, stability balls and resistance bands. Our focus for May is participation in the NAVEL Expo at the Huntington Hilton and our annual fundraiser."
